About Arm Lifts
An arm lift, commonly referred to as a brachioplasty, is an advanced cosmetic surgery that seeks to restore the appearance of the upper arm. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Suzman performs the surgery at WESTMED Group in Westchester, NY for his patients after a private, one-on-one consultation. Typically the surgery involves making a small incision from the elbow along to the upper arm that allows Dr. Suzman to remove and tighten excess skin and fat. Dr. Suzman understands that with age or excessive weight loss comes the possibility of sagging or loose skin in the arms, and he is well-equipped to asses your surgical needs to help deliver the best results possible. A brachioplasty can be an effective way to bring a more youthful and contoured appearance back to your arms and upper-body.
"Excellent surgeon - Dr Suzman did a superb job on my facelift. He also did fat transfer, chemical peel and Botox. I love the way I look in the mirror thanks to Dr Suzman. "To start, he has an amazing bedside manner. He's calming, comforting, extremely informative and honest. This was my 2nd, the first being 7 years ago,for breast augmentation. I also had some fat injections in my now forever youngish face. You couldn't ask for a better surgeon. Try him, you'll love him!!! Oops, let's not forget his amazing, helpful and friendly staff!!"- D.R. / Yelp / Jan 06, 2019
"Wonderful plastic surgeon! - Dr. Suzman is highly professional, great personality and bed-side manner. Great results! highly recommend."- Anonymous / Vitals / Jan 02, 2019
"Could Not Be Happier - I could not be happier with my breast augmentation. I specifically wanted smaller sized implants that would look natural with my small boned thin frame. As I told Dr. Suzman during our initial consultation, "I don't want my breasts to be the first thing people notice about me". Well, he delivered. I finally got the cleavage and proportioned look I've always wanted without the obvious "boob..."- F.H. / RealSelf / Dec 18, 2018
"Dr. Suzman is by far one of the most amazing doctors I've ever had. He performed a rhino/septoplasty on me and he without a doubt changed my life. His work is impeccable, he is down to earth, caring, and eased my worries about surgery. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. I am constantly getting complimented on my nose and his work was so natural that it fit right onto my face and matched all the proportions of it! Exemplary doctor!!! Would come to him again!"- V.F. / Yelp / Dec 30, 2016
The best candidates for an arm lift procedure are men or women who have loose and hanging skin from the underside of the upper arm. This skin keeps these individuals from wearing short sleeves or fitted clothing. Patients must be at or near their goal weight, and their weight should be stable. This surgery is not reserved for weight loss patients alone. Patients who are in good health and wish to have their arms toned and tightened may also consider this procedure.
What to Expect
The goal of an arm lift is to remove excess skin and reveal a toned upper arm. The plastic surgeon will evaluate your skin quality and elasticity and determine how much fat, tissue and skin should be removed to attain the results the patient desires. The length of the incision made during surgery will vary. For example, patients who have healthy skin tone may only require a minor incision. Massive weight loss patients who present with excessively loose and hanging skin will require a more extensive approach. During surgery, the excess skin is trimmed and removed, and the underlying muscles are tightened. An armpit lift is sometimes incorporated during this procedure for patients who have additional skin and fat deposits within the armpit.
Swelling is expected after arm lift surgery, although the amount of swelling varies among patients. The swelling starts to subside during the first 1-2 weeks after surgery. A compression garment or sleeve will usually be recommended to control this swelling and to keep the skin and tissue firmly protected. Most patients can resume moderate arm activity in 3-4 weeks, with a complete recovery about 4-6 weeks after the surgery. While all surgical procedures will leave some scarring, the incision resides under the arm so that it is not as noticeable. The surgeon will provide a scar treatment plan to help the incision(s) heal in a healthy and quick manner.
