About Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure that provides lift and restoration to the skin surrounding the upper and lower eyelids. Westchester County, NY board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Suzman offers eyelid restoration at WESTMED Group for patients with drooping skin and wrinkles around their eyes. Dr. Suzman improves vision and aesthetic issues by removing excess skin and fat deposits around the eyes to help lift the eyelids and eliminate bags. A blepharoplasty can be an effective way to add youthfulness and rejuvenation back to tired or drooping eyes, and an individual treatment plan can be determined for each patient based on their cosmetic goals and needs.
"Dr. Suzman is by far one of the most amazing doctors I've ever had. He performed a rhino/septoplasty on me and he without a doubt changed my life. His work is impeccable, he is down to earth, caring, and eased my worries about surgery. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. I am constantly getting complimented on my nose and his work was so natural that it fit right onto my face and matched all the proportions of it! Exemplary doctor!!! Would come to him again!"- V.F. / Yelp / Dec 30, 2016
"Amazing surgeon and practice who give great care. I was hesitant to have work done but it was medically necessary. They put my mind at ease from the initial visit right up until post op. Good candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who experience:
- Bags or fat deposits under the eyes
- Loose skin and wrinkles on the upper eyelid
- Impaired vision due to hanging skin on the upper eyelid
- Unhappiness with their facial appearance
Healthy adults with droopy upper eyelids or puffy bags under the eyes are generally the best candidates for this procedure.
What to Expect
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both. This procedure is most commonly used to treat excess, loose, and sagging skin around the eyes that can impair vision and make a patient look and feel uncomfortable. This procedure also corrects minor wrinkles and folds around the eyes to improve the appearance. During the procedure, the loose skin around the eye is removed along with any fat pockets through small incisions. For upper eyelid treatment, the removal of excess skin and fat can improve vision and correct the natural fold of the eye.
Following eyelid surgery, patients should keep their heads elevated for the first several days. Bruising and swelling should be expected and may last up to 3 – 4 weeks. Your surgery results will look their best once your treatment area has healed in 3 – 4 weeks. Patients should expect minimal scarring at incision points, which will be almost invisible to the naked eye.

Awake and Alert Again
Eyelid surgery can help to improve your eyes by making you look more attractive and improving your vision. Many patients, both men and women, undergo blepharoplasty to rejuvenate their appearance and improve the physical ailments that come from loose, sagging skin around the eyes. For women, this loose skin can make putting on makeup a burden and may prevent them from achieving the look they desire.
