About A Septoplasty
A septoplasty is a procedure commonly performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Suzman to help correct breathing and cosmetic issues. If a patient is suffering from a deviated septum, when the cartilage and tissue that connects the nostril is displaced, then a septoplasty is often the appropriate next step. After meeting with the patient in a private consultation at WESTMED Group's Westchester County, NY office, Dr. Suzman can restore the deviation by correcting the crooked passageway and realigning the bone. Patients can expect to experience not only cosmetic improvements, but also easier breathing after the short procedure.
The best candidates for septoplasty surgery:
- Have a deviated or crooked septum caused by genetics, birth defect, or trauma
- Have breathing issues
- Suffer from snoring
- Desire a long-term solution
- Desire a natural look
What to Expect
A septoplasty is generally an outpatient procedure and can be performed under general anesthesia or a lighter version (twilight sedation). This surgery requires no external incisions since the plastic surgeon will lift and separate the tissue that covers the septum. This allows the surgeon clear access to the various nasal structures. The damaged structures will be reshaped, while not affecting the overall shape of the nose. The internal incisions will be stitched close afterwards. The surgical process typically lasts 1 – 1.5 hours. In some cases, a septoplasty is performed in conjunction with turbinate reduction surgery, which affects proper nasal air flow. A septoplasty can also be combined with rhinoplasty surgery to correct cosmetic nasal issues.
"Excellent surgeon - Dr Suzman did a superb job on my facelift. He also did fat transfer, chemical peel and Botox. I love the way I look in the mirror thanks to Dr Suzman. "To start, he has an amazing bedside manner. He's calming, comforting, extremely informative and honest. This was my 2nd, the first being 7 years ago,for breast augmentation. I also had some fat injections in my now forever youngish face. You couldn't ask for a better surgeon. Try him, you'll love him!!! Oops, let's not forget his amazing, helpful and friendly staff!!"- D.R. / Yelp / Jan 06, 2019

"Could Not Be Happier - I could not be happier with my breast augmentation. I specifically wanted smaller sized implants that would look natural with my small boned thin frame. As I told Dr. Suzman during our initial consultation, "I don't want my breasts to be the first thing people notice about me". Well, he delivered. I finally got the cleavage and proportioned look I've always wanted without the obvious "boob..."- F.H. / RealSelf / Dec 18, 2018
"Dr. Suzman is by far one of the most amazing doctors I've ever had. He performed a rhino/septoplasty on me and he without a doubt changed my life. His work is impeccable, he is down to earth, caring, and eased my worries about surgery. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. I am constantly getting complimented on my nose and his work was so natural that it fit right onto my face and matched all the proportions of it! Exemplary doctor!!! Would come to him again!"- V.F. / Yelp / Dec 30, 2016
Following septoplasty surgery, there’s little pain, discomfort, swelling, or bruising. Most patients can return to their normal activities within a week. The patient should notice improved breathing soon after the surgery, which should continue to improve in the weeks and months following surgery.
