Dr. Michael Suzman

Why Early Breast Cancer Detection is Important

Let's Get Started

Speaker 1:          It was December 23rd, 2009 when I found out I had stage one breast cancer. Westmed's Dr. Fou was so good about telling me my options. I felt, because she is a woman, her compassion for her work helped me understand and deal with the life-changing news. Telling a patient that he or she has cancer must be extremely difficult for a doctor, but I knew she would guide me through this dark chapter of my life.
After talking to Dr. Fou and weighing all my options, I decided to have the double mastectomy and that way I avoided having chemo. I was operated on by Dr. Fou and Westmed's Dr. Suzman, who worked side-by-side to perform the surgery. Dr. Suzman did a wonderful job. We had a year-long journey together. Today, I am five years cancer free and I live everyday to the fullest. I recommend that everyone get checked out for breast cancer. If I had not, I might have had a different diagnosis. Breast cancer doesn't wait, so breast cancer screenings should not, either. It could be one of the most important things that you do.
