Procedure Details
What is a chemical peel?
- Improving the skin texture, pigmentation and surface wrinkles requires stimulating new skin and collagen growth
- Retin-A is a prescription cream that can help improve new skin texture and wrinkles
- After a few weeks or months of Retin-A therapy, patients who seek more improvement can undergo a chemical peel, where an acidic liquid derived from fruit acids is applied to the skin
- The surface skin reacts with chemical peel causing the skin to frost color and gently peel off over a few days
- Trichloroacetic acid (TCA)is a medium depth skin peeling agent that we frequently use for our patients. Glycolic acid is more gentle and is often done by aestheticians.
- Laser treatments work in a similar fashion to chemical peels but are more intense and can result in more burning and peeling
