What is a chemical peel?

  • Improving the skin texture, pigmentation and surface wrinkles requires stimulating new skin and collagen growth
  • Retin-A is a prescription cream that can help improve new skin texture and wrinkles
  • After a few weeks or months of Retin-A therapy, patients who seek more improvement can undergo a chemical peel,  where an acidic liquid derived from fruit acids is  applied to the skin
  • The surface skin reacts with chemical peel causing the skin to frost  color and gently peel off over a few days
  • Trichloroacetic acid (TCA)is a medium depth skin peeling agent that we frequently use for our patients.  Glycolic acid is more gentle and is often done by aestheticians.
  • Laser treatments work in a similar fashion to chemical peels but are more intense and can result in more burning and peeling
