?7) What should I expect during the procedure?
¡Surgery is done with local anesthesia after taking a Valium tablet to help with relaxation. The back of the scalp area is shaved and hairs are removed by our skilled nursing team. You then turn onto your back for implantation of the individual hairs according to the plan designed by your surgeon. It takes at least 4 hours, so bring some music or audio book or video.
?8) How long is the recovery?
¡You will be comfortable but have quite a bit of forehead and even eyelid swelling for a few days. The donor site will slowly regrow hair, and can be hidden by longer surrounding hair or shaving the entire area. You will be back to normal within a week or so. Hairs take months to regrow, even a year. So be patient!

¡Major risks are very rare in healthy patients. Making sure your medical conditions such as blood pressure are in ideal form before surgery is important. Infections or severe bleeding are not common, but can occur in any surgery, so your surgeon will follow you closely. Some hairs may not grow after transplantation, but it is rare for complete or significant failure of hair grafts. Some balding can continue to occur over time, so additional procedures could be needed in the future. ?10) When will I see the final result?
¡It will take 3-4 months for hairs to start to grow and up to 12-16 months for appreciable growth. You won’t just show up one day with a full head of hair– it grows at a natural pace over time. The final result should have more hair density in treated areas with limited thinning at the donor site. Complete dense coverage of treated areas in not possible, but lasting, significant and natural results are realistic goals.

What to Expect
Our NeoGraft hair transplant procedures are performed on an out-patient basis, using local or oral sedation anesthesia. Patients comfortably relax, watch videos, listen to music or nap during their procedure, which takes several hours to complete. Follicular unit micro-grafting is a procedure during where literally thousands of follicles are redistributed into the thinning or balding areas. Each micro-graft contains a single follicular unit consisting of 1-3 (or rarely, 4) hair follicles. Follicular unit grafts are then carefully implanted into the bald or thinning recipient areas. Meticulous artistic and technical skill is required to design an appropriate hairline, as well as ensure the appropriate angle, orientation, and position of each transplanted hair. Follicular unit micro-grafting creates a result that looks and feels as natural as possible.
After the Procedure
Most people do not have any significant discomfort after the NeoGraft procedure. Some itching and swelling does occur, so we recommend patients take a few days to rest and recover. With NeoGraft follicular unit hair extraction, you can resume normal activities in just a few days, unlike the strip excision method which could take weeks. Crusting and scabbing of the transplanted areas last about a week. A portion of the back of the scalp is shaved, and it can take a few weeks to grow in. Patients with longer hair can usually hide this donor area nicely.
Patients with a very short haircut usually have the donor area grow in by 2 weeks. The transplanted hair falls out in about 2 - 3 weeks and generally begins to grow again in about three months. This means that the hair restoration occurs naturally and gradually. Many patients require more than one session of hair transplantation, and most will require some replacement again in the future as they continue to age. For patients with more significant balding, they may require a procedure every 6-12 months for 2-3 procedures. Others may just require small touch-up treatments in the years to come if they continue to lose hair in the untreated sections.
